EL PASO, Texas ( KTSM ) – Bill Childress Elementary School is being disinfected after “higher than normal” reports of students and staff getting sick, according to the Canutillo Independent School District (CISD).
CISD said students and staff were experiencing stomach flu-like symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever and chills.
The district is working with the City of El Paso Health Department to determine the cause and source of the illness as well as next steps, according to CISD.
CISD said the health department has advised the district to begin a deep cleanse of the school and to launch a hand-washing health campaign.
As a precaution, the district will disinfect all CISD campuses over the weekend.
In addition, CISD is asking parents and employees to monitor symptoms at home over the weekend. If symptoms arise, health officials encourage impacted people to remain hydrated and to contact their family physician.
