AlamogordoTownNews.org reports thst on October 25th, 2024, the New Mexico State Police conducted a traffic stop on a panel van I-25 near milepost 146 due to the vehicle having the registration plate displayed upside down. The officer made contact with the male driver. During the traffic stop, the officer was able to see hands holding onto bars attached to the interior side of the windows leading the officer to believe there may be occupants inside held against their will. Eventually, the driver admitted to having people in the back of his van, as he stated he was paid to transport the undocumented individuals. United States Border Patrol arrived to assist NMSP and discovered 29 individuals inside the van.
The driver and the undocumented individuals in the vehicle were turned over to USBP where they were booked and charged.
