Riverside County mountain community evacuations lifted after propane leak

All orders have been lifted after residents of a mountain community in Riverside County were advised to evacuate or shelter in place after a propane truck leaked Saturday morning.

According to Cal Fire , crews were dispatched to the 53100 block of Mountain View Drive in Pine Cove, located in the San Jacinto Mountains west of Palm Springs and Cathedral City, around 9:30 a.m. Saturday on reports of a semi-truck leaking propane gas.

Evacuation orders were subsequently put in place for those living on Mountain View Drive, a dead-end street off CA-243.

Residents in the area of Walters Drive – located due south of Mountain View Drive – were advised to shelter in place and refrain from using any type of ignition source, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office said on X just before 11:15 a.m.

At 1:39 p.m., fire officials posted an update on X, saying, “The leak has been mitigated. The evacuations and shelter-in-place orders have been lifted and all engines have cleared the scene.”
