Weekend Storm to Bring Scattered Rain and Snow to Utah; Snow levels to drop to near 5,000 feet

A Pacific storm system is set to impact Utah this weekend, bringing valley rain and significant mountain snowfall along with colder temperatures. According to the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City, the storm will begin to spread across the state as a mid-level trough moves into the Great Basin. While initial precipitation may be scattered due to weak convergence, a more organized band of rain and snow is expected as the system digs southeast into northern Utah tonight.

By Sunday morning, snowfall accumulation in higher elevations is predicted to reach between 5 to 10 inches, with some areas experiencing even greater totals due to orographic effects. A Winter Weather Advisory has been expanded for the higher terrain north of Interstate 80, as snow levels will drop from above 6,000 feet to near 5,000 feet.

Most valleys along the I-15 corridor are anticipated to receive rain throughout the event, though snow levels may dip lower toward the end of the precipitation. As the system moves out, gusty winds may develop across parts of Washington County, potentially prompting wind headlines later in the weekend. After a brief break on Monday, another storm is expected to cross the state Tuesday into Wednesday.
