Tyler Marsh to Coach Chicago Sky

Additional Coverage:

Tyler Marsh is taking over as head coach of the Chicago Sky, leaving a coaching vacancy on the Las Vegas Aces staff. Marsh will lead a team with rising stars Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso, who joined the Sky as first-round draft picks this year.

The Sky, who won the 2021 WNBA championship, struggled last season, finishing 13-27 and missing the playoffs. The team fired Teresa Weatherspoon in September, and Marsh will now attempt to build around Reese and Cardoso.

Marsh has a strong coaching resume, having worked as an assistant and head of player development with the Las Vegas Aces, where he helped the team win back-to-back championships in 2022 and 2023. He also has experience in the NBA and the G League.

His departure from the Aces creates a second assistant-coaching vacancy on Becky Hammon’s staff, following Natalie Nakase’s departure to coach the expansion Golden State Valkyries. The Aces are expected to return their core players, but Kelsey Plum is set to become a free agent.

Marsh’s hiring leaves five head-coaching positions still unfilled in the WNBA: Los Angeles, Dallas, Washington, Atlanta, and Connecticut. Next season will mark the first time in league history, excluding its inaugural year, that seven new head coaches will start the season.
