This sausage ball recipe is one of my families favorite appetizers to have. They are so simple to make and are a wonderful addition for parties, game day or just enjoying them for breakfast some mornings. You will need the following ingredients:
Recipe:
1 pound of breakfast sausage
8 oz colby jack cheese, shredded
3 cups of self-rising flour
1/2 cup of buttermilk
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.
Place the sausage, flour, cheese, and buttermilk into a medium bowl and mix this together until everything is evenly mixed. You can do this by hand or using a fork or spoon.
Form the sausage into about 1 – 1 1/2 inch balls using a spoon and place them on a greased cookie sheet. Tip: You can place these pretty close together as they will not rise much during cooking.
Bake the sausage balls until they golden brown and cooked through, about 20 – 25 minutes. Bake time will vary according to how big you make the sausage balls.
You could make large ones and serve them as biscuits. I have done this as they are really good with homemade gravy. Enjoy!
