The Tennessee Volunteers managed to turn a “Dark Mode” game against the Kentucky Wildcats into a successful one for the second time in three seasons. Tennessee, in their all-black uniforms, managed to escape the Wildcats 28-18 on Saturday night in Neyland Stadium, coming alive in the second half for the third straight home game to come from behind and secure victory.
However, the late kickoff provided for more than a loud and intimidating environment. It, along with the dark mode theme, gave the university the chance to do something during the pre-game that turned out to be pretty cool.
The Pride of the Southland Marching Band formed their traditional “Power T” formation during pregame, except this time they marched in formation with an orange light on each marcher’s head.
The result, with the lights out, was very cool.
It’s pretty impressive how the band members managed to have the spatial awareness in the dark to be able to stay in what appeared to be perfect formation.
Tennessee has slowly implemented new and exciting changes inside the stadium to increase the excitement for those in attendance. Between dimming/flashing the lights for touchdowns, spotlighting the running through the T, and shooting off fireworks for scores from the stadium, Tennessee has managed to enhance moments effectively.
