Dog burned in house fire caused by electrical heater

CANTON, Ohio (WJW) – A dog was taken to a veterinary hospital Sunday morning after a house fire in Canton .

According to a press release from the Canton Fire Department , fire crews arrived at the scene of a house fire on the 700 block of Shorb Avenue just before 10 a.m.

When firefighters got to the scene, they found the residents of the scene trying to use a garden hose to extinguish a fire on the back porch.

According to the release, the residents of the home were alerted to the fire by a neighbor who heard a dog howling. The dog was in a cage on the back porch at the time of the fire.

According to the release, the neighbor originally was able to put the fire out with an extinguisher before taking the burned dog to a veterinary hospital.

According to the release, the fire was caused by an electrical heater.

The condition of the dog is unknown at this time. No other injuries were reported, the release said.
