RENO, NV – A chilly start to November continues today with isolated light snow showers lingering across Northern Nevada, particularly south of the larger area lakes. The National Weather Service reports that brisk north winds will be prominent today, especially along Highway 95 in Mineral County, with gusts reaching up to 40 mph in some areas.
As a shortwave trough moves through the eastern Great Basin, expect gusty winds this afternoon and early evening, leading to choppy conditions on Pyramid Lake. While most moisture will stay to the east, some lake-effect snow showers could develop in locations south of the main lakes, with snow levels ranging from 5,000 to 5,500 feet. However, accumulations are expected to be minimal, around half an inch or less.
Looking ahead, a cool and dry week is forecasted, with another round of gusty winds and colder conditions expected on Wednesday. Additionally, a wetter storm may arrive around Veterans Day, providing a potential shift in weather patterns.
