Party balloons pulled from ocean after drifting from Myrtle Beach to Surfside Beach, police say

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — A wayward cluster of party balloons drifted their way from Myrtle Beach from Surfside Beach on Sunday, with a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter helping to identify the objects.

Myrtle Beach police were alerted just after 11 a.m. to reports of an “object that was seen falling into the ocean” near 18th Ave S. The Coast Guard dispatched a helicopter from Charleston as part of a search.

Officials said the object eventually identified as a “large cluster” of party balloons was recovered around 4 p.m. off the Surfside Beach coast.
