Kelsey Antonio McCallum, 29, of of Sumter, was convicted of illegally trafficking firearms and reselling them for profit, the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of South Carolina announced on Nov. 1.
McCallum and Bryana Hodge, 25, of Sumter, were indicted August 15, 2022, on one count of conspiracy, three counts of making false statements on firearm purchase forms, and aiding and abetting.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, between 2020 and 2022, McCallum allegedly made false statements at least 13 times to purchase firearms from dealers in Columbia, Sumter, and parts of Upstate South Carolina.
The department noted that McCallum also bought firearms in Georgia.
During each transaction, McCallum reportedly claimed the firearms were for his personal use, though he intended to resell them. He then illegally transported the firearms to Maryland, where he sold them.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office reported that McCallum and Hodge obtained more than 100 firearms through this scheme.
Most of these firearms ended up with felons prohibited from owning guns or at crime scenes in the Baltimore area, according to the department.
