Alameda Health System (AHS) has announced that it will assume governance of St. Rose Hospital, a nonprofit community hospital located in Hayward, CA, as part of a strategic move to ensure the hospital’s long-term sustainability and access to healthcare for Alameda County residents.
Facing financial pressures that threaten the viability of community hospitals across California and the nation, St. Rose Hospital sought this affiliation to secure its future and maintain high-quality healthcare services.
“This affiliation is good news for residents of Hayward and patients across Alameda County,” said Garrett Contreras, chair of the board of directors at St. Rose Hospital. He emphasized AHS’s commitment to improving patient health and securing stability for the hospital’s skilled staff, noting that both organizations share a core belief in accessible healthcare for all.
The partnership discussions began last year, culminating in a Membership Issuance Agreement executed on November 1, 2024, which establishes AHS as the sole statutory member of St. Rose Hospital, ensuring its continued operation for generations to come.
