SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane County Elections Office wants to assure Spokane residents that eligible voters may only cast their vote once.
4 News Now recently fact-checked claims of people being able to obtain multiple ballots, and found that no matter how many ballots a person gets, the elections office will only count one submission.
The office said for a ballot to be counted, it must be sealed in a voter envelope that has a unique barcode containing a voter’s registration details.
There are a few scenarios in which a person might receive more than one ballot.
“If something changes in your voter registration record, it’s going to generate an automatic replacement ballot. The most common one is something that the voter does, and that is by going to Washington driver’s licensing and making some kind of change to their license, such as changing their name, changing their address, or possibly even just renewing their driver’s license,” said Spokane County Auditor Vicky Dalton.
Dalton said a ballot will not be counted unless it is sealed in the envelope that contains the correct registration information.
