SAN FRANCISCO, CA — Elevated fire weather concerns will persist through next week as dry conditions and gusty offshore winds grip the region, according to the National Weather Service (NWS) in San Francisco. The Bay Area remains on alert as strong winds, combined with dry air, heighten the risk for fire spread.
Clear skies have settled over the area this Sunday morning, with only a few stratus clouds hanging in the higher elevations. Wind forecasts remain firm: breezy to gusty conditions are expected throughout the day, with gusts reaching up to 50 mph in the hills. Drying conditions are anticipated as winds blow out of the north and northeast, lasting into Monday morning.
Looking ahead, weather models predict an even stronger offshore wind event developing from Tuesday night through Thursday, though there is still uncertainty about how the vegetation will respond to the drying winds this early in the week. “No changes to the forecast at this time,” meteorologists noted, as officials watch for rapid drying that could worsen fire risks.
