Halloween kidnapping leads to 17-hour standoff, rescue of 2 women and 1 arrest

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Halloween hostage situation in Tinley Park ended with one man’s arrest on multiple felony counts, and on Sunday the Cook County Sheriff’s Office shared more information with the public.

Seventeen hours after a standoff began Halloween morning, the sheriff said officers heard a gunshot and decided to breach a Tinley Park home. Inside, they located a 52-year-old woman, who was bound at the ankles and wrists, and a 19-year-old woman. Both women appeared unharmed.

Jason Soltis, the 54-year-old resident of that home, was taken into custody and charged with aggravated kidnapping with a firearm and aggravated discharge of a firearm.

The two survivors were transported to a local area hospital for medical evaluation.

No injuries resulted from the gunfire from Soltis, who was scheduled to appear in court on Sunday.
