North St. Paul cat shelter closed for weeks due to stomach bug outbreak

A North St. Paul cat shelter will be closed until mid-December due to the outbreak of a gastrointestinal infection affecting multiple animals.

Caring for Cats, the volunteer-driven, no-kill, “cat-centric cat shelter, announced on Thursday that it is closing to the public for six weeks due to some cats suffering from gastrointestinal infections.

Gastrointestinal infections, or gastroenteritis, can be caused by bacteria, viruses, parasites, medications, or new foods to a cat’s diet. The shelter did not mention how many cats were affected or how the infection broke out.

“We hope to resume adoption appointments and all other regular activities by mid-December,” the shelter posted.

“Thank you for your continued support, understanding and patience.”
