Death of Erie man in eastside assault ruled homicide; three charged, others sought

Erie police detectives investigating a reported assault in an eastside neighborhood late Wednesday night said they found surveillance video that showed a man being chased by four others after the man left a tavern in the 1100 block of East 26th Street.

The man was knocked to the ground in the 1000 block of East 26th Street, where others began assaulting him, according to investigators.

The victim was punched, kicked and stomped until he was no longer responsive. Video showed him laying on the sidewalk with no movement as others continued to shine a light on him and kick him, detectives wrote in criminal complaints filed in the incident.

The victim, identified by Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook as 31-year-old Ledomperignon Eady, was killed in the attack.

Cook said Eady died of blunt-force trauma to the head and neck due to assault by unknown assailants, and he ruled the death a homicide.

Erie police said they have identified most of the five possible suspects in Eady’s death, but were still working to identify at least one other individual they called a person of interest on Monday.
