In this episode, we chatted with Corey Christianson about her article in the most recent edition of South Dakota History. She shares her research about Alfred Dahlin, a South Dakotan who served in the First World War. Fred’s extended family donated his Army uniform, photos, letters, maps, and other memorabilia to the State Historical Society’s State Museum and State Archives. We discussed what the available historical evidence could tell us about Fred, his war experiences, his recovery from his wounds, and his homecoming after the war. Much can be learned from this South Dakotan who participated in one of the largest battles America waged in the 20th century. For a copy of this issue, see: www.sdhspress.com/journal.
