Arkansas officials confident in “free and fair” Election Day

Arkansans should expect a fair election tomorrow, state officials and representatives from some election commissions told Axios. Why it matters: Faith in the election process, and allowing registered voters who want to cast a ballot to do so, are key to maintaining democracy.

The big picture: Fires ignited in Oregon and Washington ballot boxes last week were considered a ” direct attack on democracy ” by officials in those places. In 2022, an armed militia watched ballot drop boxes in Arizona as part of a long-term voter intimidation plan.

  • Police in Arizona, Georgia and Nebraska are preparing for potential threats against election workers, Politico reports .

Zoom in: Early voting in Benton and Washington counties has been smooth, representatives from both election commissions and Arkansas’ secretary of state office, said.

  • An estimated 666,714 — nearly 37 % — of the state’s registered voters have already cast their in-person ballots .
  • As of Nov. 1, the numbers were 94,570 in Benton County and 68,283 in Washington County.
