CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) – Fort Sumter has been added to the Underground Railroad Network to Freedom, according to the National Park Service. The Network to Freedom program consists of sites, programs, and facilities with a verifiable connection to the Underground Railroad. Currently, there are over 700 Network to Freedom locations in 39 states, according to the NPS. Fort Sumter will be officially listed in the program as “Fort Sumter and Charleston Harbor.”
