On a recent visit to the State Fair of Texas, I was introduced to Stellantis’s new Electric Vehicles from Dodge, Jeep, and RAM. Each is distinctive and representative of its own brand history, and each has its own twist on electrification.
Dodge
Dodge introduced the new 2024 Charger Daytona, an all-electric next-generation powertrain with the well-known name Charger Daytona Scat Pack. It is without question a muscle car in looks and driving dynamics—just now powered by electrons and not the remains of dinosaurs.
I was impressed by the overall design of the new Charger Daytona. At first glance, it is pure Dodge, pure Charger, just slightly different. It was a two-door coupe hatchback. While the two-door design had always belonged to the larger and pure muscle machine, the Challenger, the Charger’s overall proportions were sleek and elegant, letting you know that the tagline “Brotherhood of Muscle” was still alive.
Starting with the front, there is no grill, as EVs do not have large radiators to cool fossil-fueled engines. Note: They still have radiators for other purposes. An aerodynamic wing at the top of the front facia made you think, “Was that meant for the trunk lid?” Nope, providing a more slippery surface for air to travel around the Charger. The side slabs of the Charger Daytona are reminiscent of the classic lines you would see in any of the classic Dodges, meaty and solid.
