The Billy Napier experiment at Florida hasn’t gone as planned, but in recent weeks, he has managed to get the best out of his players, as evidenced by their near-upset of the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs during Week 10 on a somewhat neutral site.
Despite this progress, the Gators remain 4-4 overall, and under Napier, their record stands at 15-17. For a historic program like Florida, that simply isn’t good enough.
They haven’t experienced significant success in quite some time, leading to speculation about a major shakeup. ESPN’s Paul Finebaum weighed in on this topic during the ” Matt Barrie Show ” on Sunday.
Finebaum noted that many Gators fans, after attending the Georgia-Florida game, are growing increasingly frustrated with Napier and are ready to see him go.
One name that keeps coming up as a potential replacement is current Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin. Finebaum suggested that hiring Kiffin could bring a surge of energy and excitement to the Gators program.
“I talked to people in the parking lot at EverBank Stadium, and they want Lane Kiffin. You can agree or disagree, but that’s who they’re fixated on, and that hasn’t changed in ten weeks,” Finebaum said. However, he added, “There’s no way Lane Kiffin is leaving Ole Miss while his team is in the playoffs.”
