The big picture: State Democrats have a majority in the Senate and are expected to maintain that majority after the election.
- In the Senate, Democrats hold a 40-19 advantage, and they hold 78 of the 118 House seats.
The other side: Republicans are fighting back by changing their leadership. Kathy Salvi took over as chair of the Illinois GOP this summer.
