All eyes are on Congressional Districts 1 and 6 , where Democrats think they have a chance to defeat Republican incumbents.
Why it matters: With Republicans holding an eight-seat majority in the U.S. House, control of the chamber could come down to a handful of swing districts like these.
In District 1: Republican U.S. Rep. David Schweikert is a seven-term incumbent known as a policy wonk with a passion for tax and financial issues.
- Democrat Amish Shah is an emergency physician and former state representative with a reputation as a moderate Democrat who was willing to vote against his party and work with Republicans.
In District 6: We see a rematch of the 2022 battle for this highly competitive district in Tucson and southeastern Arizona.
- U.S. Rep. Juan Ciscomani, a longtime aide to former Gov. Doug Ducey, won by about 5,200 votes last time, a key pickup for the GOP as it took narrow control of the House.
- Kirsten Engel is a former state legislator and a law professor at the University of Arizona.
