Two pharmacists at Rocky Hill Pharmacy have been indicted by a federal grand jury in connection with fake prescriptions to defraud Medicare and Tennessee’s Medicaid program of more than $8.7 million.
Tiffany Haney and Anne Warren, co-owners of the west side Knoxville pharmacy, are accused of submitting altered and forged prescriptions, including ones in their husbands’ names, to secure reimbursement from the programs and private health insurance companies.
Haney and Warren appeared in federal court Nov. 1 on federal charges of conspiracy to commit health care fraud, making false statements and aggravated identity theft. Prosecutors say they submitted the false claims from around August 2018 to at least July 2024. FBI agents raided Rocky Hill Pharmacy in April during the investigation. The pharmacy continues to operate on Northshore Drive.
Federal prosecutors presented to the grand jury evidence the two pharmacists altered formularies – lists of drugs approved for coverage – signed legitimately by providers in order to increase the reimbursements. Prosecutors also say Haney and Warren used the names of medical providers to authorize prescriptions listing themselves and their family members as patients without the knowledge of the physicians named on the prescriptions.
