A tip led sheriff’s officials to investigate and confiscate about 5,600 pounds of fireworks found in an El Dorado County storage until and a Sacramento County home.
More than 4,000 pounds of fireworks were found in a unit at a storage business in El Dorado Hills, the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office announced Monday. Many of these fireworks are illegal in California.
Late last month, the sheriff’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal team received a tip reporting a possible illegal possession and illegal storage of fireworks at the facility.
The explosives team obtained a search warrant for the storage unit and confiscated the fireworks found inside. Sheriff’s officials said investigators learned a Folsom resident had purchased the fireworks and stored them in El Dorado County.
Last week, the sheriff’s explosives team served a search warrant at the Folsom resident’s home. There, the investigators found an additional 1,600 pounds of fireworks, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
“El Dorado County has zero tolerance for fireworks,” sheriff’s officials said in a Facebook post. “While some of these fireworks are certified as California “Safe and Sane,” a majority of them were not.”
