This was the second straight excellent performance for Ethan Garbers, who looked every bit the confident, cool, decisive quarterback he was against Rutgers. This is very much the Garbers we were expecting to see from the opening snap this season, showing great command of the offense, good accuracy to all levels, and the agility to move around the pocket or even make plays with his legs when needed. It’s amazing what a modicum of pass protection can do for a quarterback, but you also just have to give Garbers a bunch of credit of his own. He is not throwing balls into traffic at anywhere near the rate he was earlier in the season, and he just looks so much calmer out there. In this game, his throws to Kwazi Gilmer were each excellent, putting the ball where only Gilmer could reach. The first one down the right sideline in between a couple of defenders was great, but each was a great throw. He also fit it into some tight windows to Moliki Matavao. The 57-yard scramble showed off his underrated athleticism again, even if he did pretty clearly run out of gas at the end, as Nebraska showed only limited interest in trying to tackle him. If he keeps playing like this, UCLA can do some things in these final four games.
