Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin and 29 state coalition make opioid settlement with Kroger

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Arkansas will receive over $30 million after reaching a settlement with Kroger over its role in the opioid crisis.

Attorney General Tim Griffin said the settlement means Arkansas will receive $13,535,086.30 from the chain. The settlement is part of a $1.37 billion settlement reached with a 30-state coalition that included Arkansas.

According to an attorney general spokesperson, Kroger will make 11 payments to Arkansas through 2034. Kroger has also agreed to changes in how its pharmacies monitor, report and share data about suspicious activity related to opioid prescriptions.

“Opioid addiction continues to be a scourge in Arkansas and our nation,” Griffin said. “I am pleased with this settlement as the funds will go to opioid abatement.”

Griffin also said he was grateful to the other state’s attorneys general who were part of the coalition.
