NEW YORK (1010 WINS) – The 2024 Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree will be cut down on Thursday and is set to arrive in New York City this weekend.
The 74-foot-tall Norway spruce from West Stockbridge, Massachusetts, was selected as the 2024 Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree. The cutting will happen at 8 a.m. at 8 Albany Road in West Stockbridge, where a large crane will hoist it onto a 115-foot-long trailer for transport.
Once secured, the tree will begin its journey south and is expected to arrive at Rockefeller Plaza in Midtown Manhattan on Saturday, Nov. 9. This is the first time since 1959 that a Rockefeller Center tree has come from Massachusetts.
The spruce will then be prepared for the holiday season, adorned with 50,000 lights and topped with a Swarovski star. The annual lighting ceremony, part of the “Christmas in Rockefeller Center” broadcast, is scheduled for Dec. 4.
The tree will remain on display through the holiday season, until mid-January 2025.
