Happy Election Day!
After months of campaign ads , door knocking and fundraising, voting is upon us.
Beacon Journal reporters are following what’s happening at the polls , at the watch parties and all the victories and defeats of candidates and issues across Greater Akron, the state of Ohio and, the biggie: Who will be the next president of the U.S. — Kamala Harris or Donald J. Trump.
Also, if you’re at the polls and run into potential voter intimidation or have trouble because of language or disability-related issues, you can also call the ACLU’s non-partisan Election Protection Hotline at 1-866-OUR-VOTE for help.
When will we find out who won the election? When will a new president be announced?
It’s likely we’ll know late tonight or early tomorrow morning whether voters passed local school levies, chose to hold onto Ohio incumbents like U.S. Congresswoman Emilia Sykes or Senator Sherrod Brown or changed how Ohio draws its congressional and state legislative maps.
But pundits nationwide agree it could take days to learn whether Harris becomes the first U.S. woman president or Trump returns to the White House. In 2020, Joe Biden wasn’t declared the winner until the Saturday after Tuesday’s election.
