In September, we asked readers where to go for the best soup in Hampton Roads, what to get and what makes it soup-er.
Nominations poured in but three received the highest number of votes: Boardwok in Virginia Beach, The Ten Top in Norfolk and The Stockpot in Chesapeake, Norfolk and Virginia Beach. I started with these and visited other recommended places. Folks were spot on with their picks. Thank you.
Here’s to the soups that lived up to the hype. Sip, sip hooray.

Boardwok, owned by Kevin Wong, has been in business for 24 years. His customers recommended the hot & sour soup ($9 small, $14 large) and house soup ($9.50 small, $14.50 large). I tried both and my favorite was the hot & sour — a great combination of flavors. It brought the heat — not in a singe-your-hair-off kind of way but in an I-can-breathe-again-runny-nose-feel-good way. Staff said it uses sambal, an Indonesian chili sauce (or paste). The soup included other ingredients, such as shredded roast pork, water chestnuts and tofu. Outstanding.
