WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – A parking lot on Central and Oliver filled with hundreds of mourners, all honoring the memory of Donald Williams, who was shot and killed Halloween night. Friends, family, and neighbors all remember what they loved about Donald and the bittersweet lessons that could be learned from his death.
Donald’s aunt, Crystal Weatherspoon, drove from Texas for the memorial. According to her, the crowd served as some semblance of a reminder that Donald’s memory won’t go away anytime soon.
“Look at all these people that came out to support you,” she said.
Each person held a balloon, symbolizing what they loved about the 13-year-old. From the crowd, cries of “Let them go for my baby” echoed as they were released.

“Donald was such a good kid. It breaks my heart because now I can’t hear him say, ‘Hey auntie,’ when I walk in the door,” Weatherspoon said.
Speaking just before the balloons were released, Pastor Odell Harris Jr. said he’s been to dozens of events like this one—far too many times for his taste.
