Canadian Grocery Chain Expands to US: 1st Store in Washington

In 1993, Cindy Lee, a Taiwanese immigrant to Canada and founder of T&T Supermarkets, had a simple idea: bring fresh Asian groceries to nearby communities. That year, she and her husband opened two stores in the province of British Columbia (BC)—one in Burnaby and the other in Richmond.

In the ensuing years, the company has grown to over 35 locations in BC, Alberta, Ontario, and Quebec. The company, which is now run by Cindy’s daughter Tina, is now ready to dip its toes into the US market for the first time.

The first store south of the border will be at 12620 SE 41st Pl, Bellevue, WA. This is the first of three U.S. locations the company has planned. Beyond groceries, the market will offer a wide range of hot prepared meals featuring Asian dishes. The store will also have a large liquor section with a broad selection of wines and spirits.

The company plans a second Washington location in Lynwood as well as one in California. The Bellevue store will have its grand-opening on December 5th.
