Ventura has hired a new city attorney who started last week.
Javan Rad, chief assistant city attorney for Pasadena for the past 12 years, was named to the position in early October and began Thursday.
“I look forward to supporting the City Council’s goals and objectives, and working with talented staff and engaged Ventura residents to shape a thriving, resilient community,” Rad said in a statement.
The City Council voted on Oct. 8 to approve Rad’s contract.
“Javan stood out among a highly qualified pool of candidates, demonstrating exceptional experience, extensive knowledge and strong leadership qualities,” said Mayor Joe Schroeder in a statement. “The City Council is confident that Javan is the right person to guide the city attorney’s office into the future.”
He will earn a base annual salary of about $294,000. Benefits include a monthly vehicle allowance of $500, a $10,000 relocation stipend, 80 hours of vacation leave and a nine-month severance package, among other perks, according to a staff report.
