Two leaders of nonprofit organizations are competing in Tuesday’s election to serve as Ojai’s mayor.
Andy Gilman faces Michelle Pineiro in the race for a two-year term leading a five-member City Council. Voters across the city of about 7,500 people can cast ballots in the contest.
What to know about the Ojai mayoral race
Gilman and Pineiro are vying to succeed Mayor Betsy Stix who decided not to seek re-election . Pineiro is a marketing consultant who also founded the nonprofit Sustainable Ventura. She ran for city council two years ago, but was narrowly defeated by Leslie Rule.
Gilman, a longtime Ojai resident, leads the nonprofit Agora Foundation that hosts great books seminars. Agora also operates an Ojai Chautauqua organization that promotes civil discourse on high-charged issues. Gilman is making his first run for public office.
