Sarah Stewart has won the general election for chief justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, according to incomplete, unofficial results.
With about 30% reporting, Stewart had received received 334,193 votes compared to Democratic opponent Greg Griffin, who received 139,651.
Stewart was elected to the Alabama State Supreme Court in 2018. She was previously appointed by then-Gov. Bob Riley to the 13th Circuit Court of Alabama in 2006, becoming the first female jury trial judge in Mobile. She was also the first female president of the Circuit Judges Association, receiving a J.D. from Vanderbilt Law School in 1992.
