Brothers sentenced in 2021 deadly Union Avenue pileup

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) — Two brothers have been sentenced in connection with a crash in 2021 on Union Avenue that resulted in a 10-vehicle pileup and one death.

Jose Catarino-Reyes was sentenced Tuesday to five years in prison after pleading no contest to charges of vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run resulting in death, according to court records.

Antonio Catarino-Reyes was sentenced to four days’ time served after pleading no contest to an accessory charge, records show.

On Nov. 16, 2021, a Chevy Silverado ran a red light at Union Avenue and 21st Street. It smashed into the back of a vehicle driven by 40-year-old Fedricia Harrison, leaving her with fatal injuries and resulting in the pileup.

Arrested in Madera — where the brothers are from — Jose Catarino-Reyes admitted to driving the Chevy. After the crash, he got into a vehicle driven by Antonio Catarino-Reyes, who’d been driving behind him, and they left the scene, according to reports filed in Superior Court.
