Falmouth Democrat Thomas Moakley is ready to roll up his sleeves and get right to work representing the Barnstable, Dukes and Nantucket District in the state House of Representatives after formally getting elected to the seat on Tuesday.
Moakley, 29, was the sole candidate on the ballot — he outpaced fellow Democrat Arielle Faria, of West Tisbury, for the spot in the September primary, while Falmouth Republican Erich Horgan’s write-in bid to challenge the winning Democrat failed to gain enough votes to get him on the Nov. 5 ballot. No other write-in challengers emerged, either.
On Tuesday night, Moakley said he has spent the past couple of months since the primary “doing tours, having meetings and making lots of phone calls” in the district to hear from constituents about what they’d like to see from him once he joins the Legislature.
“That’s going to continue between now and then as well,” he said.
The Barnstable, Dukes and Nantucket District covers Falmouth precincts 1, 2 and 6, as well as Aquinnah, Chilmark, Edgartown, Oak Bluffs, Tisbury, West Tisbury on Martha’s Vineyard, Gosnold, and Nantucket.
