Marco Island City Council will see all new faces as voters boot the 2 incumbents

Marco Island City Council will have some new faces after four newcomers won seats Tuesday. The two incumbents were voted out.

The winners were Tamara Goehler , Stephen Gray , Deb Henry and Bonita Schwan .

Six candidates ran for the four open seats. Among the biggest topics are water quality, beach renourishment, traffic and controlling growth.

According to Collier County Supervisor of Election results, Gray received 6,163 votes, or 18%; Deb Henry won 5,963 votes, or 17.4%; Schwan garnered 5,945 votes, or 17.4%; and Goehler won 5,707 votes, or 16.7%.

Irwin received 5,430 votes, or 15.9% of the votes; Blonna received 5,016, 14.7% of the votes.

“I thought I’d do ok. I’m a bit overwhelmed,” said Henry in a phone interview. “I really thought being a Democrat would nail me down low. I’m positive that people appreciated what I give to the community.”

Irwin, who was defeated on her attempt at a second term, said, “the people have spoken.”
