‘The machine broke’: Some Hampton Roads residents faced problems at the polls on Election Day

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — Some residents in Hampton Roads reported problems at the polls on Election Day.

Several viewers sent in tips about ballot machines not working at polling locations in Hampton, Newport News and Yorktown.

A resident in Newport News told 10 On Your Side the machine at the precinct off Warwick Moose Lane was not working when they went to vote.

The registrar’s office said they sent over a new machine after and confirmed votes will still be counted.

In Yorktown, the registrar’s office confirmed there was an issue with their machine at the Yorktown Library, but it was resolved.

Several voters also reported issues at the Phoebus Branch Library in Hampton. The registrar’s office confirmed with WAVY 10 that there was a jam causing the issue.

Voters at the branch were told to put their ballots in the emergency drop or to wait until the issue is resolved. As of 7 a.m., the issue had been resolved.
