A man who was shot to death Monday in South Jackson was previously sentenced for his alleged involvement in the 2022 shooting death of a 9-year-old child.
The Jackson Police Department issued a Tuesday afternoon press release stating Tristan Kimes, 20, was shot Monday in the 3500 block of Bowers Street. Police said Kimes died at the scene.
No suspect information was provided in the news release.
Public Information Officer Tommie Brown confirmed to the Clarion Ledger that Kimes is the same man who was charged in October 2022 in connection to the accidental shooting death of elementary school student Lily Bracey, 9.
Authorities reported the shooting occurred Oct. 12, 2022, at the Graystone Hills apartment complex on Chadwick Drive.
Police said Bracey returned home from school when she was shot in the neck by another 9-year-old with a gun.
According to police, the fatal shooting was accidental and intended as play. Reportedly, the two children were friends.
