Vanderburgh voters deciding between Canterbury, Fussner for commissioner seat

EVANSVILLE — Polls are now closed in Vanderburgh County, and workers can finally start counting votes.

For those watching the race for Vanderburgh County Commission closely, this means residents will soon find out if the incoming District 3 commissioner will be Republican Amy Canterbury or Democrat Hope Fussner.

Whoever takes over will replace current Republican commission member Cheryl Musgrave who has served multiple terms for the county. Canterbury ousted Musgrave in the primary election earlier this year with nearly 53% of the vote.

A win for Canterbury would mean Republicans retain a majority on the commission. If Fussner wins, that majority shifts to the Democrats.

The race itself has been cordial between the two candidates, with no attack mailers or insults flung via social media. Both participated in all Q&As from the Courier & Press, answering questions on zoning, public safety and county development.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
