Democrat Gabriella Romero wins New York’s 109th State Assembly District

ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10) — Associated Press has called the race for Democrat Gabriella Romero over Republican Alicia Purdy for New York’s 109th State Assembly District.

New York’s 109th State Assembly District includes parts of Albany County. This is the first time in 12 years that someone other than Pat Fahy will be representing the district in the New York Assembly.

In Romero’s candidate interview with NEWS10 , she stated she stands on the tenants of safety, accountability and justice, with a plan to focus on holding criminals accountable while establishing effective preventative measures. Romero is currently an Albany Common Council member.

Purdy previously ran for Albany mayor in 2021. Purdy detailed in her candidate interview with NEWS10 that her platform’s top priority was public safety.
