WORCESTER – The chicken looks to cross the city as Georgia-based Chick-fil-A is eyeing a second Worcester location, at the former Walgreens on Stafford Street.
The chain has a popular location on Gold Star Boulevard that opened in October 2017 .
On Stafford Street, the Georgia-based chain wants to flatten the existing property and build a 5,331-square-foot restaurant with drive-thru service, the chain’s representative, Joshua Lee Smith, told the Zoning Board of Appeals on Oct. 28.
Applications show that the chain is looking for two special permits, one for drive-thru food service and another to modify the parking layout of the property.
Smith said work at the site would yield 77 parking spaces, two drive-thru pathways and outdoor seating.
The Zoning Board expressed concerns about the extent of the plan’s reach across the property, with members pointing out the limited green space because of the large amount of parking.
Despite standing firm on the parking plan, Smith was asked to return with revised plans for the parking layout. The next meeting is Nov. 25.
