Election Results: Cornelius, Durham, Gaston to retain some leaders, welcome new councilors

Races across Washington County are coming into focus following initial election night results, Nov. 5, with several cities preparing to welcome new council members and familiar faces alike.

While Cornelius looks to retain some long-serving leaders, others cities like Gaston are in the midst of tight races that could see a shift in a governance.

Not all votes have been tabulated, as Oregon law allows ballots postmarked by Election Day to be counted if received within the following week. Elections will be certified by Dec. 2.

Here are the latest numbers as of midnight, Wednesday, Nov. 6:

Cornelius

Jeffrey Dalin will once again be in the mayoral seat, as the incumbent ran unopposed in this year’s election. Per early results, the mayor, first appointed in 2011, holds 96.8% of the vote.

For the city council’s two open seats, incumbent Angeles Godinez-Valencia is leading with 35.5% of the vote. Newcomer Gregory Vaughn appears poised to join the council, holding 27.3%.

Challenger Citlalli Nunez-Barragan follows with 22.3%, alongside Goldstar Yim with 13.6%.
