WARWICK – A 33-year-old Charlestown man admitted to driving to endanger resulting in the death of 17-year-old Olivia Passaretti early on New Year’s Day 2022.
Aramis Segura has pleaded no contest to one count each of driving to endanger, resulting in death, and leaving the scene of an accident after sending Passaretti’s car careening down an embankment off Interstate 95 south and then fleeing. Passaretti, an East Greenwich High School junior and popular athlete , was pronounced dead at the scene, just miles from her family’s home.
Segura’s sentencing is set for Jan. 17 before Superior Court Judge Luis M. Matos. He has been held without bail at the Adult Correctional Institutions since his arrest.
Girlfriend convicted of leaving the scene, aiding and abetting
Segura’s girlfriend, Alicia Peckham, was convicted by a jury in August of leaving the scene of an accident with death resulting; as an aider and abettor by concealing Segura; harboring a criminal to avoid arrest; misprision of a felony; and obstructing an officer in execution of their duty by lying to police. According to authorities, Peckham, 28, lied to police at the crash scene and hid Segura, the driver of the Mercedes-Benz that ran Passaretti off the highway.
