A New York man has been arrested and charged with attempting to support the Islamic State.
Syed Aman, a US citizen, was apprehended at JFK Airport while attempting to board a flight to Qatar. He is accused of planning to travel to Syria and join ISIS.
Aman allegedly provided financial assistance and expressed support for ISIS online. He also arranged to travel to Syria and wage jihad on behalf of the group.
According to an FBI informant, Aman expressed hatred for those who oppose ISIS and discussed killing them. He also posted on social media about his desire to kill US citizens and become a martyr.
Aman booked a flight to Bangladesh with the intention of reaching Syria via Qatar and Turkey. He was found carrying a steel pen that could be used as a weapon.
Federal prosecutors have filed a criminal complaint against Aman. The FBI continues to investigate the case.
