Deer hunting hotspots in Ohio: ODNR

(WJW) – So far, the number of deer harvested by Ohio archery hunters is slightly below average, but some counties in the Buckeye State are proving to be more bountiful than others.

Just last year Ohio wildlife experts reported a record-breaking season.

According to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources , through Sunday, Nov. 3, hunters have checked 48,321 deer. The three-year average through the first weekend of November is 50,844 white-tailed deer.

Last season was the first time Ohio archery hunters topped 100,000, reported wildlife experts and said it’s an indication that bowhunting is becoming more popular.

Ohio’s top 10 counties for archery harvest, so far this season:

  • Coshocton: 1,673
  • Tuscarawas: 1,514
  • Ashtabula: 1,490
  • Knox: 1,375
  • Holmes:1,355
  • Trumbull: 1,353
  • Licking: 1,216
  • Muskingum: 1,119
  • Richland: 1,097
  • Guernsey: 1,039

Archery season started at the end of September and will continue through Sunday, Feb. 2.
