OAK RIDGE, Tenn. (WATE) — Marvell Moore was more than a Lieutenant at the Oak Ridge Police Department, he was a friend to everyone he met and worked with. Chief of Police Robin Smith said Moore left a lasting legacy in the Oak Ridge community.
“He’s become an influence with so many people so there are parts of him that will carry on with his legacy,” Smith said. “The next person that will be stepping up in that lieutenant’s role will not be Marvell Moore, but they’ll be influenced by Marvell Moore. There will be so many officers working with that person that will be influenced by Marvell Moore.”

Moore was a nearly 20-year veteran on the ORPD force after joining the department in 2005. He died unexpectedly after a recent medical procedure. He wore many hats and started a mentoring program within the department that is still running strong today.
“He would assign a mentor to a young officer so they could have someone to talk to,” Smith said. “Someone they could ask questions to help them though, ‘how do I navigate my career.’ That was a really big deal.”
