Alpha Genesis, which has approximately 5,000 monkeys, has a history of escapes. In 2016 and 2014, monkeys previously fled the facility.
Alpha Genesis’ Purpose and Controversy
Alpha Genesis claims to conduct humane research to advance primate biology and human health. However, some animal rights activists have raised concerns about the treatment of the monkeys.
Monkey Island
Alpha Genesis also manages Morgan Island, known as “Monkey Island,” where 3,500 rhesus monkeys live. The island is off-limits to humans and serves as a research site.
